Dental Fracture Treatment Might Require a Dental Crown Restoration

Posted .

Chipped or fractured tooth enamel can do more than simply alter a tooth’s appearance and surface textures. The compromised area can sometimes be deep enough to affect the sensitive dentin layer that exists around the pulp and nerve of the tooth.

Even if the tooth isn’t causing immediate discomfort, you should still have a dental fracture examined by one of our skilled dentists. The longer you wait, the more likely you are to experience significant complications.

A significant dental fracture that doesn’t traumatize the sensitive core or root of the tooth might require a dental crown restoration. This treatment is designed to completely replace the tooth’s enamel layer. Common materials for a crown often include gold, dental grade porcelain, or a metal alloy.  After the dentist removes the remaining traces of tooth enamel, he will make a detailed impression of the tooth. This impression will be used to create your crown, which will be cemented in place during your second visit.
