Pregnancy and X-rays

Posted .

Most people can see that radiation can cause cancer. That’s why we get lots of inquiries and voiced concerns from pregnant mothers who need X-rays for dental procedures. We totally get the concern, and we’d like to answer and resolve it.

First, please understand that radiation from X-rays is very low and carries very little risk. Secondly, know that each time we perform an X-ray at Wheelock & Associates Dentistry, we cover the patient with a leaded apron to lessen the amount of exposure. These aprons cover the abdomen and will keep your child secure. The dangers that stem from untreated oral conditions are much greater risks than X-rays, which are very normal to receive. We will do all we can to retain you and your child’s health, so we may use an X-ray to diagnose certain conditions in the oral cavity. And as always, Dr. Dr Ryan Baller will consult with you about your unique situation and determine what the right course is for you. If you’re still concerned about X-rays, please tell us about it so we can work to find the right solution for you.
