As a toothache develops the increasing discomfort and sensitivity can certainly be distressing. Left untreated the affected tooth could suffer a severe fracture or a dental abscess which could eventually lead to the total loss of the tooth.

If you have a toothache or any early signs of dental distress it’s best to have the tooth examined by our dentist to prevent further complications After we have assessed the nature and severity of the problem we will explain a potential treatment plan.

If the pulp or root of the tooth has been affected our dentist will need to perform a root canal to excise any within the tooth. The treatment process also includes removing the tooth’s enamel layer.

At that point our dentist will use a special material to prepare an abutment. The small post will effectively serve as a strong anchor to support an eventual dental crown.

When it is ready the dental crown will be cemented directly onto the restored abutment with a special type of dental adhesive, thus restoring the physical presence and function of the previously distressed tooth.
