Born and raised in Sioux City, Dr. Douglas Wheelock graduated from Sioux City Central High School in 1969. He then received his Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Briar Cliff College in 1973. He attended dental school at the University of Iowa and earned his Doctor of Dental Science degree in 1976 (and became a devoted Hawkeye fan in the process). After graduation from dental school, Dr. Wheelock returned to Sioux City. He began supervising the construction of his first dental office at 3901 Transit Avenue, working for Dr. Jerry Smith in South Sioux City, NE, until its completion in February 1977. In 1996, Dr. Wheelock moved his practice to its current location. He is a proud member of the Iowa Dental Association and the Academy of General Dentistry.
Dr. Wheelock became business partners with Dr. Brian Bursick in 2004. Together they have created a highly successful practice focusing on the dental needs and desires of their patients. They have continued to grow with countless hours of continuing education to ensure that each patient receives the best possible care. They have also invested in their practice with cutting-edge technology such as CEREC and lasers. Dr. Jaicee Post joined our team of skilled doctors as well in 2016.
In addition to his commitment to providing excellent dentistry, Dr. Wheelock is also dedicated to being involved in his community. He is active in his church, Third Presbyterian, where he serves on several committees. Dr. Wheelock earned his Eagle Scout Award as a youth and has served as an adult scouter in many capacities, including Webelos leader and Scoutmaster.
Dr. Wheelock is married to his college sweetheart, Marilyn, and has three adult sons and three daughters-in-law. He is also the proud grandfather of five incredible grandchildren. When not working, Dr. Wheelock enjoys hunting with his two German Shorthaired Pointers, Sadie and Delle. He is a passionate fisherman who never passes up an opportunity for “one last cast.” Dr. Wheelock received his private flying license in 2004 and is qualified to fly a Cessna on wheels or floats.

A Sioux City native, Dr. Brian Bursick grew up in the Crescent Park area. He attended West High School and graduated in 1986. He then earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree from the University of Nebraska Dental School in 1994. After graduation, he practiced briefly in Sergeant Bluff, IA, and in 1997, he joined Dr. Wheelock as an associate. Dr. Bursick is also a devoted member of the American Dental Association and the Iowa Dental Association, and is a past president of the Sioux City Dental Society.
In 2004, Dr. Bursick became a business partner at Wheelock & Bursick Dentistry. Along with Dr. Wheelock, he built a successful practice that focuses on the dental needs and desires of their patients. Dr. Bursick has special training in CAD/CAM dentistry, Lumineers®, Invisalign® (clear orthodontics), and laser dentistry. Dr. Bursick is devoted to delivering quality comprehensive dentistry to the people of his hometown, Sioux City, IA.
Away from the office, Dr. Bursick is busy with his family. He and his wife, Kristy, have three sons. Dr. Bursick is a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. He enjoys his golfing league and never turns down a chance to play another round.
Dr. Jaicee Post grew up on a farm in a small town in western Nebraska. She graduated from high school there in 2008 and then moved to Kearney, NE where she received her bachelor’s degree in biology. Dr. Post graduated from the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Dentistry in 2016 and is excited to be joining Dr. Wheelock and Dr. Bursick in their thriving practice.
She is a member of the Academy of General Dentistry and has participated in several community service opportunities including the Nebraska Mission of Mercy and multiple sharing clinics. Dr. Post plans to gain new skills through continuing education and strives to uphold the Wheelock and Bursick promise of quality dental care.
In her spare time, Dr. Post enjoys spending time with friends and family, reading, fishing, camping, and gardening. She plays a bit of piano and is attempting to learn the violin and welcomes chances to be involved in other activities. She is thrilled to be a part of the Sioux City community and for the chance to serve its members.

Marilyn, Office Manager
Marilyn is our esteemed office manager. She has been with the company for 35 years. She received her undergraduate degree from Briar Cliff and went on to graduate school at the University of Iowa. She is a licensed master social worker. Marilyn believes that the people working in the dental industry and the new, dramatic changes in dentistry are the most important factor in the office. Her favorite part about working at Wheelock and Bursick is the opportunity to improve patients’ lives.
Marilyn is married to her college sweetheart, Douglas. She loves spending time with her five grandchildren. She also enjoys running, swimming, reading, and is an avid “Dancing with the Stars” fan.
Emily, Dental Hygienist
Emily grew up in Moville, IA. She graduated from Woodbury Central High School in 2004. After graduating, Emily attended the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, majoring in health promotion. She was then accepted by the Dental Hygiene program at Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo. In 2008, she graduated with an AAS in dental hygiene. After working as a dental hygienist in Iowa City for a year, Emily moved back to her hometown in August 2009. She joined the Wheelock & Bursick Dentistry team in November 2009.
In her spare time, Emily has volunteered at the Special Olympics, Best Buddies program, and Iowa Mission of Mercy. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends, golfing, reading, playing with her dog Winston, and cheering for the Hawkeyes and the Red Sox.
Kevin, Dental Hygienist
Kevin was born in Utah, living in seven different states before his family settled in South Dakota. He graduated from high school in 2001 from McCook Central in Salem, SD. Kevin then attended the University of South Dakota, graduating in 2005 with a bachelor’s degree in dental hygiene.
Kevin met his wife, Jodi, while studying at USD; they were married in 2006. They have five children: Anna, Brody, Ciara, David and Ella. In his spare time, Kevin enjoys being outdoors, traveling, and spending time with his family.
Alisha, Dental Hygienist
Alisha was born in Sioux City and raised on a farm outside of Kingsley. She graduated from Kingsley-Pierson High School in 1997. She pursued her Bachelor of Science degree at the University of South Dakota where she graduated with her dental hygiene degree in 2000 and BS in 2001.
Alisha joined Dr. Wheelock and Dr. Bursick’s team in February 2004. She was married in July 2005 to Matthew and they live on a century farm outside of Westfield. They were blessed with two children, Brody and Morgan. Alisha enjoys spending time with her family, camping, and gardening.
Teri, Dental Hygienist
Teri was born in Sioux City and graduated from East High School. In 1999, she moved to Des Moines, where she attended Des Moines Area Community College. She graduated in 2000 from the Dental Assisting Program and again in 2003 from the Dental Hygiene Program.
Teri worked in Des Moines for several years before returning to Sioux City. She and her husband, John, have a daughter, Isabella, and a son, Frankie. Teri enjoys walking with her dog Matilda, spending time with family and friends, traveling to Okoboji, and cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes.
Kelli, Front Desk Coordinator
Kelli, a Sioux City native, graduated from East High School in 1995. She graduated from the Western Iowa Tech Dental Assisting Program in 1997. She joined Dr. Wheelock’s practice upon her graduation as both a front desk coordinator and dental assistant, but has since hung up her dental assisting hat.
Kelli married her high school sweetheart, Matt, in May 1999. They live in Morningside with their three boys: Noah, Cale, and Iain. Kelli enjoys spending time with family and friends, photography, reading, and being involved in her sons’ activities.
Sharon, Front Desk Coordinator
Sharon was born in Sioux City and grew up here. She graduated from Heelan High School in 1969. In 1970, she completed the dental assisting program at Western Iowa Tech. Upon graduation, she started working for Dr. Morgan, where she met her husband, Dennis, who was a patient there.
Sharon joined Dr. Wheelock’s team in 1982 as a front desk coordinator. She has twin sons, Dr. Rory McKenna, a chiropractor in Chicago, and Dr. Ryan McKenna, a dentist in Sioux City. Ryan has two sons, Liam and Owen, and a daughter, Maren.
Sharon enjoys spending time with her family and golfing.
Kim, Dental Assistant
Kim is a lifelong Siouxland resident. She graduated from South Sioux City High School in 1985. She then attended the Western Iowa Tech Dental Assisting program and, upon graduation in 1986, began working with Dr. Wheelock.
Since getting her certification in 1986, Kim has received her Dental Assisting Registration in 2001, became an Expanded Functions Dental Assistant in 2006, and most recently became 1 of 7 dental assistants in the country to be certified in CEREC design. Kim has also served on the WITCC Dental Assisting Advisory Committee since 1990.
Kim currently lives in South Sioux City with her companion, Jeff. Together they have two daughters, Kristi and Aleah. In 2008, Kim and Jeff were blessed with their first grandson, Brayden, and in 2012 a second grandson, Mickey, joined the family.
In her time away from the office, Kim enjoys spending time with her family and friends and attending any football game played by Nebraska (GO BIG RED), Morningside, or the Bandits. She also loves reading by her pool (weather permitting) and driving around town singing in her 1979 little red Corvette!
Tracey, Dental Assistant
Tracey was born and raised in Sioux City, Iowa, and is a 1988 graduate of Bishop Heelan High School. She attended Western Iowa Tech and graduated in 1993 from the Dental Assisting program, receiving her CDA. In 2001, she received her RDA and then went on to receive her EFDA in 2006. Tracy has most recently received her CEREC design certification Levels 1 and 2 in 2009/2010.Tracey began working for Dr. Wheelock in 2005 and loves learning new technology and advancing her dental training with her partner-in-crime, Kim.
Tracey married her husband, Andy, in 2000, and together they raise their son Vinney, born in 2003. She enjoys golfing, fantasy football, scrap booking, camping in Platte, SD, and traveling with friends and family.
Wendy, Registered Dental Assistant
Wendy is a lifelong resident of Siouxland. She graduated from South Sioux City High School in 1985. She then attended the Western Iowa Tech Dental Assisting Program. Upon graduating in 1986, she received her certificate for the Dental Assisting National Board. In 2001, she received her Registered Dental Assisting Certificate from the State of Iowa. She also became an Expanded Functions Dental Assistant in 2006 and has taken additional training for Invisalign® and CEREC. Wendy joined Dr. Bursick in 2003.
Wendy lives in Morningside with her husband, Bob, whom she married in 1992. They have a son, Sean, and a daughter, Erin. She enjoys gardening, reading, and spending time with her family.
Missy, Registered Dental Assistant
Missy grew up in Moville, Iowa, and graduated from Woodbury Central in 1996. She attended Western Iowa Tech Community College and completed the Physical Therapist Assistant Program in 1998. That same year, she developed a love for dentistry and became a dental assistant. She completed her dental training at Western Iowa Tech and Creighton University. In 2000 she received her CDA, in 2001 she received her Registered Dental Assistant certification through the State of Iowa, and in 2006 became an Expanded Functions Dental Assistant. She will complete her Associate of Applied Science degree from Western Iowa Tech in December 2012.
Missy began working for Dr. Bursick in 2012. She is excited to expand her dental knowledge with the latest procedures and technology at Wheelock & Bursick Dentistry.
Missy lives in Moville with her significant other, Nick, and their daughter, Reese. In her spare time, she enjoys helping Nick with his family business, Weaver Show Cattle, and attending cattle shows. When not on the road, Missy can be found golfing the day away or relaxing outside with family and friends. She is also a huge fan of Iowa State and takes every opportunity to support them.
Lyndsay, Front Desk Coordinator
Lyndsay, our front desk coordinator, was born and raised in the Spencer, IA area, where she attended Ruthven-Ayshire High School. After graduating in 2006, she moved to Sioux City to attend Western Iowa Tech. In 2012, Lyndsay received her Registered Dental Assisting Certificate from the state of Iowa. She joined Wheelock & Bursick Dentistry in 2013.
Lyndsay lives in Morningside with her husband, Tim. They were married in June of 2013 in Milford, IA. She enjoys spending her free time visiting her five siblings and nieces and nephews in the Spencer area.
Stacie, Dental Assistant
Stacie is the third Moville alumnus to join our team! She graduated from Woodbury Central in 1997. After graduation, she joined the Air Force, stationed in Colorado. She graduated from Iowa School of Beauty in 2003. She spent the next ten years working as a hairstylist in the Sioux City area. In 2010, Stacie decided she’d like to go back to school. She enrolled in the Dental Assisting program at Western Iowa Tech Community College, graduating in 2012. She joined the Wheelock and Bursick team in June 2013.
Stacie lives in Morningside with her significant other, Eric, and his son, Brock. When away from work she enjoys spending time with Brock and Eric, along with her other family, and shopping. Go Hawkeyes!
